About Me

Hi, I’m Ren

I’m a PACFA Registered Certified Practising Counsellor, and I offer a warm, compassionate space for adults seeking support with their mental health and emotional wellbeing. I believe counselling works best when you feel genuinely heard, respected, and met where you are — without judgement or pressure to “fix” yourself.

My approach is grounded in kindness, curiosity, and collaboration. I work alongside you to understand your experience and support you in making sense of what’s been difficult.

My Path to Counselling

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent almost 20 years working as a community pharmacist, supporting people through all stages of life. During this time, I witnessed firsthand how mental health concerns can quietly affect relationships, work, identity, and overall wellbeing. I also trained my therapy dog, Woof, who accompanied me at work and helped me see the value of emotional connection and support in healthcare settings.

Over time, I realised I wanted to focus more fully on the emotional and psychological aspects of care — sitting with people in their distress, listening deeply, and helping them feel understood. This led me to retrain as a counsellor and complete my Master of Counselling in 2023.

Since graduating, I have worked extensively in high-acuity and crisis mental health settings, providing support to people experiencing suicidal thoughts, gambling-related challenges, grief, and a range of mental health difficulties. This work has strengthened my ability to remain calm, present, and deeply attentive, even in moments of intense emotion or complexity.

I was also invited to train as a lead counsellor, supporting other clinicians on shift and assisting clinical managers. Through this role, I have gained additional insight into guiding and mentoring other professionals, while deepening my understanding of mental health from multiple perspectives.

My unique background in both pharmacy and counselling allows me to understand the intersection of medication, mental health, and daily life, giving me a well-rounded perspective that informs my client-focused approach — always within the boundaries of counselling scope.

Professional Experience & Areas of Support

Alongside general mental health counselling, I have particular experience supporting adults with:

  • Anxiety, depression, and emotional overwhelm
  • Stress, burnout, and life transitions
  • Executive functioning challenges, time blindness, and difficulties with focus or follow-through
  • ADHD-informed concerns, with or without a formal diagnosis
  • PMDD and cyclical mood changes
  • Perimenopause and menopause-related mental health challenges
  • The emotional and psychological impact of medication

All counselling is provided within a psychological and emotional wellbeing framework. I do not diagnose or provide medical advice, and medical decisions remain with your treating health professionals.

A Note on My Background in Pharmacy

My background in pharmacy gives me an informed understanding of how medications can intersect with mental health and emotional wellbeing. In counselling, this allows space for thoughtful conversations about clients’ lived experiences of treatment, side effects, and the emotional impact of managing health concerns — always within a counselling scope.

Therapy with Woof 🐾

For some people, feeling calm and safe in the therapy space is essential. Where appropriate and by request, sessions may include Woof, my trained therapy dog.

Woof offers a gentle, grounding presence and has experience supporting people in healthcare and counselling environments. Therapy dog sessions are always optional and discussed in advance to ensure they are suitable and comfortable for you.

A Gentle Invitation

Seeking counselling can feel like a big step, especially if you’ve been managing on your own for a long time. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply curious about support, you are very welcome to reach out.
