Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach me at info@rensolomoncounselling.com.au if you cannot find an answer to your question.

No referral is needed. You are welcome to book directly.

Some clients choose to involve their GP or other health professionals alongside counselling, but this is entirely your choice.

As a PACFA Registered Certified Practising Counsellor, sessions are not currently eligible for Medicare rebates.

I work with adults (18+) seeking support for mental health and emotional wellbeing.

This includes people experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, emotional overwhelm, life transitions, ADHD-informed concerns, PMDD, and perimenopause or menopause-related mental health challenges.

No. You do not need a diagnosis to access counselling.

Many people seek support because they are feeling overwhelmed, struggling with focus or emotional regulation, or simply feel that something isn’t quite right. Counselling focuses on your lived experience, not labels.

No. I do not diagnose conditions or conduct assessments.

My work is focused on supporting the emotional and psychological impacts of challenges such as executive functioning difficulties, cyclical mood changes, or hormonal transitions. If you wish to pursue assessment or medical support, I can help you prepare for conversations with appropriate health professionals.

No. I do not prescribe medications, recommend changes, or provide medical advice.

My background in pharmacy allows me to hold informed and thoughtful conversations about clients’ lived experiences of medication from a counselling perspective — such as emotional impacts, side effects, or challenges with adherence — while all medical decisions remain with your prescribing doctor.

ADHD-informed counselling recognises how differences in attention, regulation, and executive functioning can affect mental health, relationships, work, and self-esteem.

This work may include exploring overwhelm, time blindness, emotional regulation, shame, burnout, and practical supports — whether or not you have a formal ADHD diagnosis.

Sessions are a collaborative conversation focused on what feels most important to you.

We may explore your experiences, emotions, patterns, coping strategies, and goals at a pace that feels safe and manageable. There is no pressure to talk about anything before you are ready.

Sessions are typically 50 minutes.

Some clients attend weekly, others fortnightly or as needed. Frequency is something we can discuss together and adjust over time.

Where appropriate and by request, clients may have the option to include sessions with Woof, my trained therapy dog.

Therapy dog sessions are always optional and discussed in advance to ensure suitability, comfort, and safety. If at any time you prefer sessions without Woof present, that is always respected.

Yes. Counselling is confidential, and your privacy is taken very seriously.

There are some legal and ethical limits to confidentiality, such as if there is a serious and immediate risk to your safety or the safety of others. These limits will be explained clearly as part of informed consent.

If you are experiencing immediate danger or feel unable to keep yourself safe, please contact emergency services.

If you are in Australia and need urgent support, you can contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Suicide Call Back Service on 1300 659 467.

Counselling sessions are not a crisis service, but support and referrals can be discussed if needed.

Taking payment before the session ensures we can make the most of our time together without interruptions.

Life happens!

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice.

Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed appointments, are not refundable, as the session time has been reserved for you.

I understand that unexpected situations can arise, and exceptional circumstances may be considered at my discretion. If something unforeseen occurs, please feel free to contact me as soon as possible to discuss.

You can book an appointment or get in touch via the contact details on this website.

If you’re unsure whether counselling is right for you, you’re welcome to reach out with any questions — there’s no obligation to proceed.
